Chelsea suffered their first defeat in 18 runs against Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday night.

While Chelsea remain at the 3rd spot on the table, the gap between them and league toppers; Liverpool and Tottenham could widen if both sides win their matches today.

Although the Blues were not at their best yesterday, the same can however be said of Carlos Ancelloti’s squad as they were only able to win all three points owing to a mistake by the Blues goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy.

The Senegalese committed a foul which  brought down the Toffees striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and they were award a penalty which which was scored by Gylfi Sigurdsson in the first half and also turned out to be the winning goal for them.

Mendy’s mistake at Goodison Park was not his first as he committed an error against Leeds United which led to a goal as well.

Despite this, Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard has refused to blame him for their loss to Everton instead he stated that Mendy was fantastic.

“He has been fantastic since he has been here and I don’t think it was just clearly his mistake,” said Lampard in a post match statement.

“The mentality of the team to deal with second balls in the early part of the game was not good,” he added.

Chelsea will return to action on Tuesday when they will play against the Wolves.
