Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has defended summer signing Timo Werner over his current goal drought which has now gone eight games in all competitions.

Timo Werner was brought in from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window to solve the Blues goalscoring crisis and has been showing his class ever since the season started.

However, things have not been going according to plan as the Germany International has been guilty of missing some clear chances, a move that have raised eyebrows among fans.

With the Blues currently without a win in their last two matches, Timo Werner’s position was questioned but Lampard believes things will change.

Lampard at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the faceoff against West Ham noted that with Timo, any goalscorer wants to score regularly.

All they must have is mental toughness and confidence to go through periods because every striker goes through them.

Lampard noted that there’s not been a striker in the world that has been able to score game after game in a long career, so there’s no problem at that front.

On the way forward, Lampard added that Werner needs to remain confident, needs to keep getting in the areas and those goals will come without any doubt.
