Italian side Juventus have reacted to Chelsea’s interest in their defender Matthijs de Ligt.

While the reports claimed the Blues are offering either Christian Pulisic or Timo Werner as part of the deal for De Ligt, Juventus are said to be demanding only cash for the player.

Chelsea are in need of new defenders following the departure of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

De Ligt is one of the players on Chelsea’s target list to reinforce their back-line.

The reports claimed Chelsea have submitted a bid with a player-plus-cash deal worth £40million plus the choice of either Werner or Pulisic.

However, Tuttosport reports that Juventus’s hierarchy have rejected the proposed swap deal and made it clear that neither player is of interest to them.

Juventus are in need of a more traditional striker with physicality and strength who has similar characteristics to Dusan Vlahovic and can replace the Serbian striker.

Werner does not match that profile and Allegri would rather sign Marko Arnautovic, who scored 14 goals for Bologna last season.

Pulisic, on the other hand, is not highly rated by the Italian side as their top target to play on the wing is Angel Di Maria.

This means Chelsea will have to pay €100m (£86m) for De Ligt which is Juve’s asking price.

So far, Chelsea are yet to sign any player this transfer window, while the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool have welcomed new players.
