Chelsea could have witnessed the return of one of it former coach at Stamford Bridge following the sack of Frank Lampard in January.

Recall that Lampard was sacked at Chelsea after a poor spell that saw the Blues drop out of the top four.

The Blues went on to bring in former Paris Saint Germain PSG coach, Thomas Tuchel as a replacement.

However, a latest report has revealed that Tuchel was not the coach that was being tipped to replace Lampard.

The recent report revealed that the Blues manager, Maurizio Sarri was the favourite to replace Lampard at the West London club.

Further report revealed that the current German tactician was supposedly not the first choice of Blues director Marina Granovskaia, with Italian journalist Ciro Venerato claiming that she was keen to welcome Sarri back to the English capital before Chelsea billionaire owner Roman Abramovich stepped in.

Speaking to RAI Sport, Venerato said: “Chelsea, after having sacked Lampard, wanted Sarri. Marina Granovskaia, in particular, fought for his return.

“Sarri had said “yes” to Chelsea but Roman Abramovich stopped everything. Sarri’s wife and son are pushing for Maurizio’s return to Naples.”

Sarri was the coach at Chelsea for one season before he was sacked.
