How Man Utd had reportedly told Cavani to hand shirt No 7 to this player before Ronaldo’s arrival

According to the report via the Athletic, Man Utd, before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, last summer had previously asked Edison Cavani to hand over the shirt No 7 to Jadon Sancho.

However, the report revealed the decision infuriated Cavani as at then.

The reports disclosed that it happened in the summer after Sancho completed his £73 million transfer deal from Borussia Dortmund to Old Trafford.

Sancho, who wore the No.7 shirt during his time at the German side, was tipped to take up the same number following his arrival at Manchester United.

The Athletic reports that the England winger was initially offered the No.7 shirt last year whilst Man United were still negotiating a fee with the German side for his signature.

Reports claimed the Uruguay international was ‘a little put out’ by the club’s attempts to take the shirt from him when Sancho finally arrived at Old Trafford in the summer.

While Cavani continued to make use of the shirt, he finally handed the shirt over to Ronaldo when the Portugal international returned to Old Trafford last summer.
