Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in a recent statement has said his side can qualify for the Champions League next season if they can finish at the 5th spot on the league table.

This comes after Man Utd were thrashed 2-1 by Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The result saw the Red Devils in sixth place with 44 points and a -2 goal difference after 27 fixtures.

Other teams who are ahead of Man United on the league table including their points are Liverpool (63), Manchester City (62), Arsenal (58), Aston Villa (55) and Tottenham (50).

Ten Hag appears to have lost faith in winning a trophy this season as he is now eyeing a top-five finish in the league.

Recall that football body, UEFA expanded the Champions League spots for next season.

Ten Hag told reporters: “Number five [fifth position in the league] can also be a position for the Champions League, so we have to fight for it.”
