Chelsea player Hakim Ziyech in a recent statement has revealed how the Blues players reacted to Romelu Lukaku’s controversial interview with Sky Sport Italia.

According to Ziyech, he disclosed that Chelsea’s players rallied around the under-fire Belgian striker after his statement put him in trouble with the club management and fans.

The interview saw the Belgium international being dropped from the Chelsea squad for their crucial Premier League game against Liverpool.

Lukaku had said in an interview with Sky Italia that he was not happy at Stamford Bridge, among other things.

He was, however, forgiven after he held talks with manager Thomas Tuchel after he apologised.

Lukaku was restored to the Blues squad for the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash against Tottenham.

Asked about how the players treated Lukaku following the interview, Ziyech told Viasport: “The only thing we can do is support him and make him not think about other things, just about the game – and I think that’s what we did the last couple of days.

“Like I said, that’s why we’re teammates, to support each other, and that’s what we did.

“And I think even he was really sharp today and had a good performance.”
