Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in a recent statement has opened up on why he allowed Cole Palmer to join Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window.

Recall that Palmer exited Man City to join the Blues in a deal that was worth £40 million.

In a post-match statement ahead of Man City’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday evening, Guardiola insisted that he allowed Palmer to leave Etihad for Stamford Bridge because of the player’s desire to be guaranteed first-team football.

“Really pleased,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference when asked to assess Palmer’s recent performances.

“The reason why was that, he wanted game time.

“He has it so congratulations. He is a guy who came from the academy, he’s having success because it’s good for him and wish him the best.”

He added, “Congratulations for Chelsea and him.
