Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reacted to Frank Lampard’s return as Chelsea’s manager.

Guardiola in his statement said Lampard now has a second chance at Stamford Bridge.

Recall that Lampard was appointed as the Blues’ interim manager for the rest of the season following the sacking of Graham Potter last weekend.

While he made an impressive impact at Chelsea as a player, he, however, struggled during his spell as a manager from July 2019 until his sacking in January 2021 when he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

After leaving Chelsea, Lampard became Everton’s head manager but was sacked at Goodison Park in January as the Toffees battled relegation.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League tie with Southampton on Saturday, Guardiola said, “We were in touch when he [Lampard] was at Everton.

“It is good to see him back, it is a new opportunity at the club he loves and a new challenge for him.”
