Chelsea striker and France international, Olivier Giroud was handed another year extension alongside Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge on Friday, thus beating off interest for him in the summer transfer window.

Before the extension in his contract, Giroud had been linked with moves to the Italian Seria A where he was expected to join AC Milan.

The Italian side were ready to sign him on a free transfer since his previous contract with the Blues was expected to end this summer.

To confirm AC Milan’s interest in Giroud, the club striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovich had sent a message to Giroud saying the Frenchman was welcomed at San Siro.

However, with his deal extended at Stamford Bridge, AC Milan will have to wait till the end of next season with Giroud stressing that he would consider them an option by then.

“Ibrahimovic wants me at AC Milan? It is always a pleasure to hear Zlatan say this kind of thing, I will take it as extra motivation,” Giroud told RMC Sport.

”My future? I don’t want to talk about it, Milan is certainly an option among other ones.”

As it stands, Giroud remains a Chelsea player and AC Milan will have to look elsewhere if they need to sign a new striker.
