Former Chelsea star speaks on Ballon d’Or
Former Chelsea and now Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, refused to name a single player when asked to pick his choice for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
Courtois is only hoping that a Real Madrid player is handed the prestigious award.
Recall that of the 30 players nominated this year, seven of them are Real Madrid players.
The Los Blancos players on the list include Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé and Toni Kroos.
Former PSG star Kylian Mbappé, who arrived at the club in June on a five-year contract from France, scored 44 goals and created 10 assists while winning the Ligue 1, and Coupe de France with Les Parisiens last season.
When asked to name his choice for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, the former Chelsea goalkeeper simply said he would want the winner to be from Real Madrid.
Courtois in a statement via Madrid Xtra said “Ballon d’Or? Hopefully one of my teammates wins it.”
The goalie added that every of Real Madrid player on the list all have merit to win.
There are speculations that the next winner that will take over from Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who have dominated the award for more than a decade will come from Real Madrid.
