Former Blues defender reveals the solution for Werner’s goal drought
As Chelsea prepare to face Manchester City in their first match of 2021, the club former defender Scott Minto has revealed the solution to Timo Werner’s goal drought.
Timo Werner has been in the spotlight for the past few weeks as he has not been able to continue his good start to Chelsea career.
The Germany international has failed to score in his last eleven games and this has become a big issue for Frank Lampard and his team who are currently struggling.
Minto has now insisted that Werner needs a new role at Chelsea so as to get back to his good form that made the Blues beat off competition from Liverpool ever sign him.
The former Chelsea defender while speaking to Stadium Astro about Werner form noted that he’s a player that’s a defender’s nightmare.
Minto stated that if Werner is going to play on that left-hand side, Lampard has a decision to make as the team need to have a big man up front.
Once this is agreed between Lampard and his team, they have to accept that Werner is going to come inside and try to link up with Giroud or Abraham and defensively that is going to leave one open as this was evident against Arsenal.
Minto who seems to have played close attention to Werner over the past few weeks stated that if Lampard stick him up front, he should play him on the last defender, try and bring everybody a little bit short, make the opposition defence compact for a ball over the top or slide passes for his pace.
Speaking about his finish, Minto stated that this is Werner’s fault as he should have had another seven or eight goals to his name this season.
However, Minto is sure that Werner will get back to his good form and score goals for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea as they battle for glory.
