As Chelsea head to St. James Park on Saturday to face Newcastle Utd in the Premier League, manager Thomas Tuchel in a pre-match statement, has stated that Manchester City and Liverpool set standards in the EPL.

The Blues manager stressed his side are only trying to close the gap that Liverpool and Man City have set in the premier league.

Although Chelsea are currently seated at the top of the Premier League log with a point ahead of second-place Liverpool and two points ahead of Man City, Tuchel believes his side still need to do more to prove they are contenders.

When asked if Chelsea have closed the gap to Liverpool and Man City, Tuchel said, “Maybe for the moment. It is only nine games in. We need to prove it.’

He admitted that there was a gap in the last seasons and that Liverpool and City set the standards as both clubs created a certain mentality with their managers together over the years.

“We try to close it, we are confident enough to say from the first day we want to close it. This is what drives us. We will work on it because it takes a lot to keep the momentum going,” Tuchel added.
