EPL: Chelsea players remain focus despite the noise – Tuchel

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel in a statement ahead of the weekend clash vs Burnley, has said the players remain focused despite the report of change of ownership.

The Blues have been caught between the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, owing to their link with Roman Abramovich, who is Russian and an alleged ally of Vladimir Putin.

Tuchel, in a pre-match statement, revealed how the squad reacted to the news that Abramovich plans to sell the club and has advised his players to ‘not worry too much’.

‘We had a briefing from Petr [Cech – the club’s technical and performance advisor] after the [Luton] match. He gave everyone in the building a quick brief and explained the situation, not too much that we did not already know. We have to live with this situation. It doesn’t make sense to worry too much because we don’t have a lot of influence, not to say no influence at all.

‘That was the bottom line. We are allowed to focus on football and do the best to focus on football. It was not only the team, it was all of the staff. This is what we try to do anyway, to create an atmosphere where you feel safe once you enter the building, where you feel calm because we do this on a daily basis. This can help now to deal with the situation,’ the German said.

‘There is uncertainty of course, like with all humans – 100 people in the building, everybody will feel different about it.

‘I think everything is allowed for every individual but we can and should allow ourselves to focus on what we love the most and this is football, and to perform the best way possible.’

Tuchel stressed that he is impressed with his side’s ability to shut out outside noise and focus on delivering quality performances on the pitch, which they did against Luton Town and Liverpool.
