Dortmund Targets Chelsea Defender Amid Left-Back Search
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell after their pursuit of Renato Veiga fell through.
The Bundesliga side had been in talks to sign Veiga on loan, despite the Portuguese international only joining Chelsea last summer.
Veiga, however, has turned down Dortmund’s approach and appears set to join Juventus on loan until the end of the season. With Dortmund still looking to reinforce their left-back position, The Sun reports that Chilwell has now emerged as a potential target.
Chilwell, 28, has struggled to find a place in Enzo Maresca’s plans since the manager’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in the summer. He has played just 45 minutes of first-team football this season, coming on as a substitute in Chelsea’s 5-0 Carabao Cup victory over Barrow in September.

A move for Chilwell may face obstacles, however, as the player’s £190,000-per-week salary has made negotiations difficult. Reports suggest that the Englishman is reluctant to take a pay cut to facilitate a transfer this month.
Dortmund remain active in the market as they seek solutions to strengthen their defense before the January window closes.
