Dortmund eye this Chelsea striker as replacement for Haaland

German football club Borussia Dortmund are reportedly preparing for the likely departure of their key striker, Erling Haaland.

Recall that Haaland was one of the most sought after players in the recent summer transfer window, with the likes of Chelsea, Man City, PSG, among others showing interest in him.

However, none of the deal worked out owing to the high transfer fee the German club were requesting for his transfer.

With Haaland’s release clause to be  £68  million next summers, he could get a new club to sign him.

For this reason, Dortmund have identified Chelsea striker Timo Werner as a suitable replacement for Haaland.

According to Bild, Werner is one of the players on the club’s shortlist, emerging as a “surprising solution” for manager Marco Rose.

It is well known that the 25-year-old has struggled to perform at Stamford Bridge and has gone down in the pecking order at Chelsea with the return of Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

Apart from Dortmund, Werner has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

During his last season in the German Bundesliga in 2019-20, Werner scored 28 goals in 34 appearances for RB Leipzig; perhaps he would perform in the German league that the EPL.
