Chelsea’s signing spree is set to go on, with the Blues supposedly agreeing a club record fee for a talented youngster. Meanwhile, Manchester City is preparing to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona.

The west London club’s signing spree is set to go on, with the Blues apparently agreeing an underlying fee of £72m to sign German playmaker Kai Havertz.

Chelsea has been for some time connected with Kai Havertz and his signing presently is almost completed, with Bayer Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz affirming Kai Havertz has trained with his side for the last time.

There are reports Chelsea will pay Bayer Leverkusen €80m upfront, with more money on the way if a series of clauses are satisfied.

The deal will see Cheslea break its club record transfer fee, with the deal overshadowing the £71.6m it paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.

It will also take Chelsea’s spending this window to an eye-watering £213m. Frank Lampard’s team has just completed the signings of Hakim Ziyech (£38m, Timo Werner (£53m) and Ben Chilwell (£50m).
