Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen is on his way out of the club this summer.

This comes as recent report revealed that Aston Villa are closing to sealing a transfer for the Dutchman having agreed a fee with Chelsea.

The reports revealed the young defender will cost Aston Villa between £35m and £40m, depending on potential add-ons.

Further reports revealed the transfer is subject to a medical as the left-back is expected to pen a six-year deal at Aston Villa.

There are claims that Maatsen chose to join Aston Villa due to the promise of Champions League football next season.

Recall that he made it to the UCL final last season while on loan at German club Borussia Dortmund.

While the west London side had attempted to sign Villa striker Jhon Duran as part of a swap deal, they have now opted to sell Maatsen in isolation.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Dortmund attempted to sign him this summer but were unwilling to pay the full £35m asking price.

Maatsen had penned a 12-month contract extension in January but it included a release clause.

He is currently on international duty with the Netherlands in Germany at Euro 2024, where he could join the national team squad to play against France on Friday in Leipzig.

Due to this, the defender is yet to sign a new contract or complete a medical.

Maatsen moved to Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven in 2019. He spent most of his time on loans playing for Charlton, Coventry, Burnley and Dortmund.
