Chelsea are still working on extending Thiago Silva’s contract at Stamford Bridge, as indicated by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian joined the Blues on a free transfer the previous summer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain and has played 21 times in all competitions during the 2020-21 season.

The 36-year-old’s present deal with Chelsea is expected to lapse toward the end of June, however the London club do have the alternative of enacting an extra a year on the agreement.

As indicated by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who posted a report on his official Twitter account, Thomas Tuchel’s side are “working” to extend the centre-back’s contract, with an official conclusion due “in the coming days/weeks”.

Thiago Silva has played 17 premier league appearances during the present season, scoring twice, but he has not been engaged with the top flight since the beginning of February because of a thigh issue.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender has also captained Chelsea on nine occasions in the league this season.
