Chelsea will have to make use of this ongoing January transfer window to improve their defence.

The Blues are out of the race for the EPL title and are left to battle for a spot in the top three.

As of now, Chelsea are seated at the third spot with 12 points away from League toppers Man City, having been held to a draw by Brighton in their last EPL match.

Chelsea will be without Ben Chilwell for the rest of this season, and it has become necessary for them to find a replacement.

While Chelsea want a loan deal pending the return of Chilwell in the summer, the Blues have been linked with moves for Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico.

However, they have been told to pay £6m to sign him amidst interest from Italian club Napoli.

Tagliafico has 18 months left on his deal with the Dutch club, and they are ready to cash in on the player whose value will only fall during the remainder of his deal.

The Dutch defender alongside Lionel Messi won the Copa America in 2021 and has won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax.

Chelsea could have recalled Emerson Palmieri back from his loan at Lyon, but it has proven difficult.
