Napoli star and Nigeria International Victor Osimhen has emerged as the first African to be crowned the highest goalscorer in the Italian Serie A league.

Osimhen, who impressed for the Naples in the recently concluded season is also the first player to combine that with the Scudetto since 2009.

His closest rival, Lautaro Martinez, fired blanks in Inter Milan’s victory against Torino on Saturday night.

While Martinez is on 21 goals and cannot go beyond that tally, Osimhen is too far out with 25 goals.

Former Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the last player to combine both the Scudetto and the top scorer award for Inter Milan in 2008/09.

Osimhen is also the fourth Napoli player to win the award, after the likes of Diego Maradona, Edison Cavani, and Gonzalo Higuain.

The Nigerian impressive form has seen him linked with moves to Chelsea, who are keen on signing him this summer as they set to rebuild their squad after a poor season that left them in the 12th spot on the league table.
