Chelsea have reportedly identified Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng as a potential transfer target if they fail to secure a deal for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The blues are currently in the market for an experienced defender as they are willing to replace Thiago Silva who joined from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

At the age of 36, Thiago Silva is still playing at the highest level but Chelsea are not ready to risk it as they are willing to invest in young talents.

However, Dayot Upamecano who has been identified as their preferred choice has been linked with top European teams and Chelsea are trying to find an alternative.

According to a new report from Bild, Chelsea are prepared to consider an approach for Bayern Munich centre-back Jerome Boateng ahead of next season.

Boateng who has become a prominent player in Bayern Munich is likely to depart the Allianz Arena on a free transfer later in 2021 and Chelsea are willing to bring on board.

The Germany international has been identified as a suitable replacement for Thiago Silva who has shared his intentions of ending his career in Brazil.
