Chelsea Receive Major Boost in Victor Osimhen Pursuit Following Napoli’s Decision
Chelsea have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after a recent decision by the Italian club.
Napoli manager Antonio Conte’s choice to exclude Osimhen from a pre-season friendly against Girona has intensified speculation about the Nigerian international’s future, making a potential move to Stamford Bridge increasingly likely.
Chelsea have long been linked with Osimhen, and despite their interest cooling following the arrivals of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson last summer, a renewed market opportunity has brought Osimhen back into their sights.
Napoli’s desire to sign Romelu Lukaku has opened the door for negotiations, with discussions including Osimhen as part of a possible exchange.
A loan deal with an option to buy is the most likely scenario, given Napoli’s firm stance that Osimhen will not remain at the club for the upcoming season.
Although Paris Saint-Germain showed interest, they were unwilling to meet Napoli’s high asking price, leaving Chelsea in a favorable position to secure the striker’s services.
Despite Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, dismissing transfer rumors on social media, Napoli’s actions suggest they are preparing for his departure. Calenda tweeted, “I read about ‘fantasy exchanges’ with Victor… as if he was a package to be delivered quickly.
This package is the top scorer of the third Scudetto in the history of Napoli. Respect and stop fake news!” Nevertheless, Osimhen’s exclusion from the friendly match signals Napoli’s intent to move him this summer.
Chelsea’s need for a proven striker has become more evident, especially with Enzo Maresca favoring Nkunku in a wide or supporting role rather than as the main striker.
While Nicolas Jackson has returned to training following an injury, Chelsea could significantly benefit from Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess, even if only on a short-term basis.
With Napoli’s stance clear and Osimhen’s situation in flux, Chelsea appear to be in the driving seat to acquire the prolific forward, potentially transforming their attacking options for the 2024/25 campaign.
