Chelsea under the leadership of Todd Boehly are set to equip their squad led by Graham Potter with new players in the coming January transfer window.

One of the players on Chelsea’s list is Italy international Nicolo Barella, according to Calciomercatoweb.

Barella is like to take over from the likes of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, whose contract with the Blues expires next summer.

Aside from Kante and Jorginho, Matteo Kovacic has also been battling with injury this season and has only made 5 appearances for the Blues so far.

The Italian midfielder caught attention following his impressive form for Inter Milan in recent seasons.

So far this season, Barella has made eight appearances for Inter Milan, scoring two goals and creating as many assists.

Last season, he scored four goals and created 13 assists in 48 appearances.

However, Chelsea will face stiff competition from Spanish club Real Madrid, who also consider Barella as a long term replacement for veteran midfielder Luka Modric.
