The latest report has revealed that Chelsea defender and Denmark international Andreas Christensen is on the way to join Barcelona on a free transfer.

Christensen will see his current contract lapse at the end of this season, and so far, there are no sign he will extend it, especially at a time Chelsea are about to have new owners.

Popular football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Saturday, stressed that the Danish defender would join the Catalans as a free agent.

“Andreas Christensen has turned down proposals from English clubs to be respectful with Chelsea,” Romano tweeted.

“He’s now really close to join Barcelona as free agent, contract proposal’s better than Bayern one.”

Christensen joined the Bluss in February, 2012, when Andre Villas-Boas was in charge of the Stamford Bridge club.

He has gone on to become one of Chelsea’s key players at the back, despite his possible departure.

We will have to wait till the summer to see how this will play out for Christensen and Chelsea.
