Chelsea criticised for signing Felix

Former Premier League stars, Micah Richards and Chris Sutton have reacted to Chelsea’s decision to sign Joao Felix on loan from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

While Chelsea had on Wednesday announced Felix as their new player, Richards believed the Portugal star would not solve their problems this season.

Sutton, on the other hand, believes the Blues are missing the likes of Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and N’Golo Kante.

“It is not going to solve their problems. It is a really good signing but I think they need to back it up with an actual number nine,” Richards told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

“They need bodies through that door sooner rather than later because this isn’t the Chelsea we are used to seeing.”

On his part, Sutton said, “This season, they’ve basically been making it up as they go along – and this is the issue with the Joao Felix signing now.

“They miss Reece James, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante – I get that – but the bottom line is there are still enough good players within the Chelsea ranks for them to be performing better than they are.”
