Chelsea’s plans for the summer transfer window may shift again following Nicolas Jackson’s red card at the Club World Cup, which has prompted renewed attention on the club’s striker situation.

Jackson’s dismissal, which occurred on his 24th birthday, marked his second red card in just six weeks and may have longer-term consequences for his role at Stamford Bridge.

While his ban was already set to impact the early stages of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign, this latest incident may accelerate the need for additional reinforcements up front.

Liam Delap, signed from Ipswich Town for £30 million earlier this summer, was expected to feature heavily during Jackson’s suspension.

His performance as a substitute against LAFC showed promise and provided head coach Enzo Maresca with a high-energy attacking presence. However, given the circumstances, Chelsea may now be more inclined to revisit their interest in another marquee forward.

Reports suggest that Chelsea could return to the negotiating table for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Despite earlier uncertainty, the club’s growing concerns over Jackson’s reliability and long-term suitability as the main striker could make Osimhen’s £30 million asking price seem more reasonable.

Enzo Maresca remains committed to building a competitive squad ahead of the new season, and the striker role is once again under the spotlight.

Chelsea’s next moves in the market will depend heavily on how the current options perform during the remainder of the Club World Cup and pre-season preparations.
