Chelsea close to signing Lyon defender
Chelsea are said to be close to signing Lyon defender Malo Gusto following protracted negotiations, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
The Blues have been on a spending spree this January as they hope to rebuild a squad under Graham Potter.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had reported that Chelsea were in direct contact with Lyon over a move for Gusto as they are keen on bringing in a cover and competition for Reece James.
Chelsea have reached an agreement with the player and are said to be set to make a second offer worth around £30 million for Gusto after their opening bid was rejected by Lyon.
Phillips in a statement with Give Me Sport said that Gusto is seemingly set to be the next fresh face signed by the west London side.
He said: “So, this one’s pretty close now. The fee has not been agreed yet, but personal terms with the player have been agreed. He’s really keen, he wants it done.”
Chelsea have already signed Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, and Mykhailo Mudryk this January.
