Chelsea’s relentless pursuit of South American talent shows no signs of slowing down, with the club now locked in a battle with Liverpool for one of the continent’s brightest emerging prospects.

The 15-year-old Ecuadorian defender Deinner Ordoñez, already valued at around £14 million, is attracting major attention after his rapid rise through youth football.

Chelsea’s track record in the region has been impressive, having secured Moisés Caicedo and Kendry Páez, the latter currently developing on loan at Strasbourg. With Estevão also beginning his journey in London, the Blues’ scouting team is eager to stay ahead in identifying the next generation of stars. However, this latest pursuit may prove more complex.

Unlike Páez, whose move was relatively straightforward, Ordoñez is already on the radar of Liverpool and several top European clubs. His standout performances at the South American U20 Championship earlier this year made headlines, as he became the youngest player in a decade to feature in the tournament. Despite his age, he has already earned four caps for Ecuador’s U20 side.

Standing at over six feet tall, Ordoñez has quickly developed a reputation as a commanding centre-half who thrives on physical duels and defensive organization. Some scouts have even compared his style to Arsenal’s newest defensive recruit, highlighting the potential impact he could bring at the highest level.

With two Premier League giants circling, the race for Ordoñez’s signature is set to intensify, and his future promises to be one of the most closely watched transfer stories in youth football.
