Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has applauded Brazil defender Thiago Silva, who he described as a world-class player.

This is coming as Silva extended his contract at Chelsea by one year.

Since Boehly took over at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have installed a policy of signing younger players to long-term deals.

It, has, however, been an expectation in Silva’s case as his experience is viewed as a crucial component of the squad’s development under head coach Graham Potter.

The Brazil star has started 18 of Chelsea’s 21 Premier League matches this campaign.

“We’re delighted that Thiago has decided to continue with Chelsea.

“He’s a world-class talent, as he’s proven over many years for club and country, and his experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward.

“We’re thrilled he has extended his contract with us and we look forward to more success with him ahead,” Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said.
