Bayern Munich has officially announced the appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new head coach.
Kompany recently completed his second season with Burnley, where he was unable to prevent the team’s relegation from the Premier League. Despite this setback, Bayern moved quickly to secure Kompany as a replacement for the outgoing Thomas Tuchel, immediately after the conclusion of the 2023-24 Premier League season.
Reports indicate that the Manchester City legend promptly accepted Bayern’s offer, pending a compensation agreement between the clubs. On Wednesday afternoon, both clubs confirmed that the 38-year-old had finalized his move to the German side.
Burnley Acknowledges Kompany’s Departure
In a statement on X, Burnley admitted it was impossible to retain Kompany once Bayern expressed interest. The statement read:
“We can confirm that Burnley FC has come to an agreement that will allow Vincent Kompany to leave Turf Moor. While we were initially confident in retaining our manager, the changing dynamics made this impossible. We understand the allure and prestige of a club like Bayern Munich and respect Vincent’s ambition to explore new opportunities. We wish Vincent the best and appreciate his dedication during his time at Burnley. Our priority remains the stability and success of Burnley FC, and we will continue to take steps to ensure our ambition is realized—namely, our return to the Premier League. We have started the search for a new manager and will announce due course.”

Bayern Confirms Kompany’s Appointment
Shortly after Burnley’s announcement, Bayern confirmed that Kompany had signed a three-year contract to replace Tuchel.
Kompany departs Burnley with a record of 41 wins, 24 draws, and 31 defeats from 96 matches, highlighted by lifting the Championship title in the 2022-23 season. Despite Burnley’s struggles in the Premier League, where they earned only 24 points and won five matches, Kompany was praised for maintaining the team’s style of play.
Kompany now faces the challenge of regaining the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen, following Bayern’s third-place finish, their lowest since the 2010-11 campaign.
