Ballon d’Or 2026: Why Luis Diaz deserves to win

As the football world prepares for the 2026 prestigious Ballon d’Or award, several names have popped up as favourite to become the next winner.

Recently, former Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez, threw his weight behinf Bayern Munich winger, Luis Diaz as his favourite this year.

According to Rodriguez, his fellow Colombian teammate Diaz could win the individual prize if their reaches the final of the 2026 World Cup this summer.

He further argued that the former Liverpool winger is among the top five best players in the world at the moment.

“Luis Diaz as Ballon d’Or, why not? For me, he is top 5 in the world right now already,” Rodriguez said as quoted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

“If we get to the final, he can win the Ballon d’Or.”

Recall that Diaz has been in top form in the German league after he signed for Bayern Munich from Premier League side Liverpool.

Last season, he helped them to win the Bundesliga title.

Diaz will have to compete against top players like Ousmane Dembele, his club mate Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, among others, who also stand chances of winning the prestigious award.
