Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has named Manchester City as the best club in the world despite the Gunners’ win against the Citizens on Sunday.

The Spaniard, of course, improved his managerial skills as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City from July 2016 to December 2019.

Since his emergence as Arsenal’s manager, Arteta defeated his compatriot just once in their first 10 head-to-head games across competitions.

However, things are different this season as the Gunners beat Man City in the Community Shield in August on penalties before securing a 1-0 win at home in the Premier League this weekend.

Gabriel Martinelli gave the Gunners the lone goal they needed in the second half.

Arsenal’s wins against Man City come after they lost the 2022-2023 EPL to the Citizens despite leading the table for 248 days.

Speaking after Arsenal’s first league win against Manchester City since December 2015, Arteta said, via the club’s official X account (h/t @Arsenal): “We have beaten the best team in the world today, by far in my opinion, and we have done it with a huge performance.”
