Arsenal consider move for Bayern Munich defender

Arsenal are keen on adding new players to their squad and a recent report via The Athletic claimed the Gunners are interested in Bayern Munich‘s central defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The Gunners led by Mikel Arteta are impressed by the 24-year-old Dutchman’s defensive prowess and would love to have him on their side.

At the moment, Arsenal are without defender Jurrien Timber, who is expected to return in 2024 after a long-term injury.

The Gunners are also without Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is also sidelined and will also be participating in the Asian Championships from January 12th to February 10th.

The absences of these two players have intensified Arsenal‘s search for defensive reinforcements.

However, there are indications that Arsenal will not make a move for de Ligt in the winter transfer window as the Gunners see him as a “long-term transfer target” and are cautious due to financial fair play concerns after significant expenditure in the summer, amounting to approximately €235 million.
