Alonso confirms desire to play for a Spanish club
Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has revealed his desire to play for a Spanish club.
The Blues star who enjoyed a productive season at Stamford Bridge, with a total of 36 starts and seven substitute appearances in all competitions, is one of the players that have been linked with a possible transfer from the West London club this summer.
There are beliefs that the reason Alonso got regular game time was because of Ben Chilwell’s knee injury in November, which saw the latter not playing for the Blues throughout the season.
Thomas Tuchel was left with no other choice than to rely on the Spaniard rather than bring in a replacement.
However, Spanish club Barcelona have been linked with moves to sign Alonso but are yet to submit a tangible offer for him.
There are also claims that the Spaniard has reached a personal agreement with the Catalans.
With his contract due to expire in 2023, it seems that Alonso wants to explore a new challenge from next season.
As quoted by Onda Cero, Alonso said: “I have one more year of my contract.
“I have already said that I would like it, but in the end it does not depend entirely on me. It is clear that the desire to one day play in Spain is there.”
