Adam Wharton and Maxence Lacroix Included in Xabi Alonso’s Dream Chelsea XI for Fulham Opener

Chelsea’s preparations for the 2026/27 Premier League season are already gathering pace following the release of the fixture list, with new head coach Xabi Alonso set to begin his reign against Fulham at Craven Cottage on August 24.
The Spanish manager officially takes charge on July 1 and is expected to play a much greater role in Chelsea’s recruitment strategy than his predecessors. Working closely with the club’s sporting leadership team, Alonso is focused on shaping a squad capable of challenging for major honours both domestically and in Europe.
As Chelsea continue to assess potential additions, Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton remains a player of strong interest. The England international has impressed with his composure, passing range, and intelligence in midfield, making him an ideal fit for Alonso’s possession-based approach. His arrival would provide Chelsea with greater creativity and control in the centre of the pitch.
Defensively, Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. The French defender enjoyed an impressive campaign and is viewed as a player capable of adding pace, physicality, and leadership to Chelsea’s back line.
Should both players arrive before the start of the new season, Alonso could field a significantly strengthened side for the opening-day clash with Fulham. Their additions would complement Chelsea’s existing young core while adding valuable Premier League experience.
With the transfer window now in full swing, Chelsea supporters will be eager to see how Alonso reshapes the squad. The coming weeks could prove crucial as the club looks to build a team capable of making an immediate impact under its new manager.
