AC Milan technical director, Paolo Maldini, in a recent statement opened up on Chelsea’s interest in Winger, Rafael Leao.

Maldini disclosed that the Blues made effort to sign Leao in the recent summer transfer window but the deal didn’t pull through as they rejected their advancements to sign the Portugal star.

Recall that Chelsea splashed over £250 million this summer to bolster their squad and Leao was one of the many names on their target list, who they failed to sign.

“Chelsea hasn’t sent any official bid for Leão — but they made a verbal proposal… and we rejected, of course.

“He knows that staying here is the best way to improve. We want to do great things with Rafa Leao in our project,” Maldini said as per Fabrizio Romano.

With Chelsea now under a new manager in the person of Graham Potter following Thomas Tuchel’s sack, there are beliefs the Blues could make some signings in January.
