Why Raya wouldn’t play for Arsenal vs Brentford

The Premier League will return this weekend with Arsenal going head-to-head against Brentford.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will however be without his preferred goalkeeper David.

This means Aaron Ramsdale will be in line to start for Arsenal on Saturday.

Going by Premier League rules, Raya who joined Arsenal on loan in the summer transfer window is ineligible to face his parent club Brentford.

Raya has started every Premier League and Champions League game for the Gunners since the September international break, usurping Ramsdale as the club’s number one goalkeeper in the process.

Aside from Ramsdale, Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein, who has only played in one competitive game for Arsenal, is the only other first-team goalkeeper available to Arteta.

Ramsdale has only played twice for the Gunners since his last Premier League outing on September 3, a 3-2 win over Manchester United – both came in the Carabao Cup.
