Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with fresh reports claiming the Italian international is now closer than ever to completing a blockbuster move to North London.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s most sought-after midfielders over the past year. Interest first emerged during the January transfer window when his representatives reportedly explored potential opportunities with Arsenal. Since then, speculation surrounding his future has only intensified, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all believed to have closely monitored his situation.

Despite the strong competition, Tottenham have now moved into pole position. Spurs are enjoying an ambitious summer under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who has already overseen several high-profile additions as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.

According to the latest reports, Tottenham have submitted a new offer worth more than €100 million after an earlier proposal was rejected by Newcastle. The improved bid is said to have brought the two clubs closer in negotiations, fuelling optimism that a deal could soon be reached.

The North London side recently agreed a €98 million deal with West Ham for highly-rated midfielder Mateus Fernandes, beating Manchester United to his signature, and they are now hoping to follow that statement signing with the capture of Tonali.

While Newcastle remain reluctant to lose one of their key players, Tottenham’s determination and willingness to meet the Magpies’ valuation have significantly increased the chances of a transfer. If an agreement is reached, Tonali would become one of the biggest signings of the summer and a major statement of intent from Spurs.
