Sporting CP have reportedly shifted their focus to Manchester United in the race to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres, following a period of limited progress in negotiations with Arsenal.

According to new reports, the Portuguese club has grown frustrated with the Gunners after a week of silence and stalled talks over final deal terms.

Arsenal had reached an agreement in principle with Sporting eight days ago, proposing a package of €63.5 million upfront and an additional €10 million in performance-based add-ons. Notably, Gyokeres’ agent even waived his fee to help move the deal forward, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic. However, the deal has yet to be finalised due to ongoing disagreements over the structure of those add-ons.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that discussions are still ongoing in London, with Arsenal pushing for €3 million in standard bonuses and a further €7 million in more complex, conditional add-ons. Sporting, however, are seeking a full €10 million in easily achievable incentives, and the lack of resolution has prompted them to explore alternatives.

In a surprising turn, Sporting have now opened discussions with Manchester United, who are believed to be willing to meet the €80 million total valuation. United’s interest could accelerate the transfer process, especially as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.

With both clubs involved and tensions rising, the Gyokeres saga may reach a decisive moment in the coming days.
