Man Utd, Arsenal Fail With Late Hijack Attempt as Bayern Close £47.5m Move

Bayern Munich are closing in on the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown after reaching an agreement worth around £47.5 million, despite late interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal.
The Bundesliga champions have remained confident throughout negotiations, with Brown making it clear that Bayern was always his preferred destination. Although discussions with Frankfurt dragged on for more than a week, creating uncertainty over the transfer, the deal is now expected to be completed.
The agreed fee of €55 million matches the amount Bayern are also prepared to pay PSV Eindhoven for Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari. Both players were identified as priority transfer targets before the Club World Cup, and the German champions are expected to finalise both signings once the tournament concludes.
The delay in Brown’s move encouraged several clubs to monitor developments in case negotiations broke down. Manchester United and Arsenal were among those keeping a close eye on the situation, with both clubs exploring whether there was an opportunity to launch a late move for the Germany international.
However, Brown’s desire to join Bayern proved decisive. Despite the Premier League interest, there was never any indication that the defender wanted to change course, allowing Bayern to stay in control of the negotiations.
For Manchester United and Arsenal, the failed pursuit means they must now turn their attention to alternative defensive targets as they continue reshaping their squads ahead of the new season. Bayern, meanwhile, are set to strengthen significantly with the arrivals of Brown and Saibari as they prepare to defend their Bundesliga title and challenge for European honours.
