Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has applauded his midfielder Declan Rice over his impressive form during their Monday night match vs Crystal Palace.

Rice made an impressive start to life for the Gunners after his club-record move from West Ham last month.

The expensive midfielder was so good to be named the man-of-the-match with his display again at Selhurst Park.

Rice played a key role as the Gunners defended with 10 players for the last 30 minutes of the match.

Aside from shielding the back four and retaining possession, Rice made several well-timed runs forward and should have had a first-half assist after setting Eddie Nketiah clear.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Rice’s performance after the game, Arsenal boss Arteta said: “I thought he was fantastic. He really dominated the game. To ask him to do something new, I thought he was fantastic.”

Arsenal have so far started the new season on a good note.
