Kingsley Coman has emerged as an unexpected target for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta seeks to enhance his attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.

According to reports, Arsenal is considering a surprise move for Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman on a season-long loan.

Arteta is determined to strengthen his forward line and has been linked with several players, including Nico Williams and Raphinha. However, Coman has now come into focus, with Football Insider stating that the Frenchman is open to a transfer to north London, provided he receives assurances about his playing time.

This interest in Coman follows reports from Sky Sports Germany indicating that Bayern Munich is willing to allow him to leave on loan, potentially with an option or obligation to buy.

Last season, Coman made only 27 appearances across all competitions and played just twice in Bayern’s last 15 Bundesliga matches due to injury concerns.

Despite being part of the France squad for Euro 2024, he saw limited action, contributing just 15 minutes in a single match against the Netherlands. His last appearance for Bayern was during their pre-season victory over Tottenham.

While Coman undoubtedly possesses significant talent, questions remain about whether he can elevate Arsenal’s squad to the next level, especially given his age and injury history.

Nonetheless, his pace, exceptional dribbling skills, and dynamism could add a new dimension to the team.

Should Coman join Arsenal, it would likely necessitate Reiss Nelson’s departure. The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to clubs like Leicester and West Ham as he seeks more regular playing time.

After making just one Premier League start and five appearances in all competitions last season, Nelson’s role could diminish further with Coman’s arrival.

For Nelson, a transfer away from Arsenal would be a wise decision for his career development, allowing him to gain more minutes on the pitch. Simultaneously, Arsenal would benefit by freeing up a squad space and potentially reducing wage costs in preparation for Coman’s signing.

Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are expected to remain first-choice wingers under Arteta, alongside Leandro Trossard, who played a crucial role last season with key goals.

With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus also capable of playing wide, a forward line featuring Martinelli, Saka, Coman, and Trossard would be formidable.

However, the Gunners should consider targeting a dedicated right winger as well, with Raphinha being an ideal candidate for that position. Acquiring Raphinha would provide Arteta with an enviable attacking lineup for the upcoming season.

Although there have been calls for a new striker, Arsenal may be content with Havertz and Jesus leading the line this season, particularly if Eddie Nketiah departs, as he has been linked with a move to Marseille.
