Arsenal have missed out on one of England’s brightest young prospects after Manchester City completed the signing of highly rated teenager Jeremy Monga from Leicester City.

The Gunners had been in discussions over a potential move for the 17-year-old winger, with Mikel Arteta’s side viewing him as one of the country’s most exciting emerging talents. However, City have won the race by agreeing a deal worth around £10 million, including performance-related add-ons.

Monga, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday, has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium and is expected to link up with Pep Guardiola’s senior squad immediately. The teenager will also travel on Manchester City’s pre-season tour of Asia, where he will have the opportunity to impress the coaching staff ahead of the new campaign.

City are understood to have high hopes for the England youth international, believing he has the potential to develop into a first-team regular in the coming years. A decision on whether he remains with the senior squad this season or gains experience on loan will be made after pre-season.

For Arsenal, the outcome represents a disappointing setback in their pursuit of elite young talent. Arteta has placed significant emphasis on recruiting the best prospects from across Europe and England, but this time the Premier League champions have been beaten by one of their closest domestic rivals.

The Gunners are expected to continue exploring alternative options as they strengthen both their academy pipeline and first-team squad before the transfer window closes, with several other promising youngsters still on their recruitment shortlist.
