Mikel Arteta could finally see his ideal midfield come to life this summer, as Arsenal edge closer to signing both Martín Zubimendi and Christian Nørgaard.

With key departures in the middle of the park, including Jorginho’s move to Flamengo and Thomas Partey’s contract set to expire, the Gunners are actively working to reinforce their midfield.

According to football.london, Arsenal are on course to secure deals for both the Real Sociedad playmaker and Brentford’s captain.

The north London club have long admired Zubimendi, who is known for his intelligence, composure, and ability to dictate play from deep. The 26-year-old Spanish international reportedly has a €60 million (£51.4 million) release clause in his current contract, which Arsenal are prepared to meet.

Arteta, a noted admirer of Zubimendi, has been monitoring the midfielder since the summer of 2023. The Gunners are now confident that they have won the race for his signature, positioning him as a key piece in their midfield rebuild.

In addition to Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard brings Premier League experience and leadership qualities. The 30-year-old has been a consistent performer for Brentford and would offer Arsenal defensive stability and tactical discipline in the centre of the pitch.

If completed, the double signing of Zubimendi and Nørgaard would allow Arteta to craft a more balanced, technically refined, and defensively solid midfield — something he has been aiming to achieve since taking over as manager.

With a dynamic blend of youth, experience, and football intelligence, Arsenal could be set to field one of the Premier League’s most complete midfields in the upcoming season.
