Arsenal are eager to strengthen their squad after they fail to qualify for any European competition last season but they’ll have to cough out cool cash if they want to sign their target.

Mikel Arteta’s team have been linked with some top players across Europe but their opening £17m bid for Lazio attacking midfielder Joaquin Correa has been rejected.

According to reports via the Mirror, the Seria A club rejected Arsenal’s opening £17m bid for Correa.

Arsenal are a player short in midfield after
Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid this summer after his impressive loan spell.

According to Il Messaggero, via the Mirror, Lazio are willing to do business with Arsenal if that are willing to put Torreira as part of the deal.

Torreira has fallen out of favour under Arteta and spent last season out on loan at Atletico Madrid where he won the La Liga title.

With Atletico Madrid not retaining his service, Lazio are willing to have him in their team in a deal that will see Arsenal pay some fee for the service of Correa.

Correa provided 11 goals and 6 assists in his 38 appearances last season and can play as a central attacking midfielder or out wide as a winger.
