Arsenal and Liverpool Eye Ajax Defender Jorrel Hato as Van Dijk Replacement

Arsenal have entered the race for 19-year-old Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, according to TEAMtalk, joining Liverpool and three other top clubs in the pursuit.
Hato is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, having already earned 19 caps for the Netherlands at such a young age.
Last season, he made 36 appearances as a centre-back for Ajax, while this campaign he has primarily played at left-back, recording three goals and six assists in 40 matches. TEAMtalk reported in January that Liverpool were weighing a bid for Hato during the winter transfer window.
Sources noted that the Premier League leaders have long seen Hato as a top summer target for 2025, particularly as a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk. Although Liverpool ultimately did not pursue a move for the Dutchman, they remain interested in securing Hato as a long-term solution.
Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly preparing for a competitive bidding process, with Hato’s valuation hovering around £42 million.
Both clubs are closely monitoring his progress, confident that his versatility and potential make him a valuable long-term asset.
A move for Hato could significantly bolster the defensive options at both clubs, setting the stage for a new era in European football.
