2022 World Cup: France is the first country to qualify for round of 16

France have are now the first country to qualify for the next stage of the ongoing World Cup In Qatar.

This comes after Kylian Mbappe scored a brace to beat Denmark 2-1 on Saturday.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward opened the scoring just after the hour mark, after he played a neat one-two with Theo Hernandez.

Former Chelsea star Andreas Christensen scored an equaliser through a header.

However, Mbappe scored a winner late in the game, converting Antoine Griezmann’s cross to ensure France maintain a 100% record in Qatar.

The 23-year-old is now the outright top scorer at the tournament and also has 31 goals for France, level with Zinedine Zidane on the country’s all-time scoring list.

The French squad led by Didier Deschamps are top of Group D with six points, three ahead of second-place Australia, while Denmark are yet to find their first win with just a point after two games.

Host country Qatar are the first to be kicked out of the tournament.
