Man City wanted this Chelsea striker

It appears Chelsea were not the only EPL top flight that were impressed by Romelu Lukaku’s performance in the Italian Seria A; Man City are another club that were interested in the Italians star.

This comes as Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello, claimed Manchester City tried to sign the Chelsea striker in 2020.

Although the Belgian striker completed a £98 million deal to Chelsea in the last summer transfer window, he might have been playing for Pep Guardiola by now, with Pastorello claiming Man City made a move for Lukaku at the end of the 2020/2021 campaign.

However, he disclosed that a deal didn’t happen because of logistical issues brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think I can say without disappointing anybody that Manchester City came in the year before.

“During the pandemic, it was very complicated because of trying to fly to places to meet people. It started very concrete and very serious, but eventually, they changed their idea or they were not ready to make it happen.

“Honestly, it was very difficult after the first year – it was almost impossible. He hadn’t won the league with Inter and he wanted to do that, and it would have been really impossible. Then they [City] focused on Harry Kane this summer,” Pastorello told The Telegraph.
