Former Newcastle United star Alan Shearer has applauded Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund over his stoppage time goal against Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round over the weekend.

The Red Devils had an early two-goal lead at Rodney Parade.

Alejandro Garnacho was close to making it 3-0 but the Argentine hit the woodwork with his effort.

Newport managed to level the scores after the break before the Red Devils pulled ahead through Antony in the 68th minute.

They were hanging on for a win in the closing stages before Hojlund eased the pressure with a 94th-minute goal.

In a post-match comments, Shearer was delighted for the young Dane.

The Magpies legend said that the striker toiled and deserved his goal as he never stopped, he told BBC Sport: “I thought he toiled and did well up front and he deserved his goal for everything he did, he never stopped all afternoon. You’ve got to keep going and he deserved it.”
